Learning a new language means playing with words
I wasn’t particularly creative when I first tried to come up with a name for my services, but the word "Wortspiel" – literally "word game" or "play on words" – somehow stuck with me. I realized that playing with words is exactly what I do and what I try to inspire in my students. Teaching and learning German, as well as translating, is all about playing with words. It's about creatively engaging with language, exploring how words come together, discovering new meanings and concepts, and yes – having fun with it.
Unfortunately, many people associate learning German with something difficult, dry, or even mathematical – full of complicated grammar and endless rules.
My goal is to break down those barriers and show you how dynamic, enjoyable, and fun language learning can truly be. Let’s play!
Why “Wortspiel”?
About me
My name is Nina,
From a young age, I’ve been passionate about two things: working with people and exploring languages. My love for linguistics and teaching has grown over the years and was especially fueled in 2014 when I began learning Serbo-Croatian. The experience of learning a language not just in formal settings but in an authentic environment—in my case, with friends and the desire to understand and communicate with them—had a huge impact not only on my personal language-learning journey but also on my understanding of language acquisition and learning in general.
I studied Educational Science at the University of Hamburg and completed training in Teaching German as a Foreign Language at the Goethe-Institut. Over the last years, I’ve taught German to adults and children, both individually and in groups, in-person and online.
In 2024, I launched “Wortspiel” to focus on interactive online classes tailored to each student’s needs. My goal is to make learning German enjoyable and engaging, going beyond grammar rules to foster self-confidence and creativity.
When designing and preparing my online classes, I do my best to address the challenges of online teaching. While nothing can fully replace real-life interactions, I strive to make my online lessons as immersive and engaging as possible—using interactive tools, real-world materials, and a communicative approach to bring the language to life.
Alongside teaching, I also offer professional translation services from English and Croatian into German. With a deep understanding of both language learning and cultural nuances, I ensure that translations are not only accurate but also natural and contextually appropriate. My eye for detail, strong linguistic intuition, and passion for communication help me bring texts to life in German.
If you’re interested in learning German or need translation support, I’d love to help!
